Sigmah is a project promoting user autonomy. The aim is that users can use the tool for daily activities without any training. So each screen must have a very intuitive graphical design.

To have a intuitive graphical design, a good practice is to draw mockups of new screens and iterate with feedbacks from users or other people until the graphical design is perceived as intuitive by most people.

• The more realistic a mockup, the better
  • If you are a developer and you get a mockup which has too be respected with the precision of a pixel, it will reduce all uncertainties and you will be able to focus on your main aim: developing the feature so that it works the best, and with your source code style suiting well all Sigmah source code guidelines. So getting a very realistic mockup is always better. And during the discussion on the mockup, having a very realistic mockup will also help users immerse themselves in the screen, and be sure for all of what will look exactly the screen in the end.
• The more realistic and complete the sample data used, the better
  • To be sure to match at least the most common use cases in terms of completeness and constraints of data to be displayed and manipulated in the screen it is always a good habit to try to get the most realistic and complete data sample.
• Use scenarios to present behaviors
  • In case of complex screens to mockup, using a mockuped scenario of several screens is a good lesson learnt. It will help understand and illustrate how the screen or set of screens should work.

• Start from a screen capture
  • It is an easy and good start to make your mockup more realistic.

Anyone is free to use any software for mockuping. But to respect easily the “realistic objective” explained above, a good solution is to use the open-source solution Pencil: http://pencil.evolus.vn/

Pencil is full of plugins, including “stencils” useful to have directly ExtJs-looking graphical components. The two following can be used :
